General Information

Mei Foo Sun Chuen is one of the largest private housing estates in Hong Kong. Located in Lai Chi Kok, Kowloon, it consists of 99 blocks in 8 phases, providing a total of 13,149 flats.

The Estate was jointly developed by New World Development Company Limited and Mei Foo Investments Limited between 1968 and 1978, and is currently managed by Urban Property Management Limited.

According to the 2011 Population Census, there were 12,122 families and 38,974 residents in the estate. The median monthly domestic household income in Mei Foo Sun Chuen was HK$36,040 in the 2011 census.

 

Housing Units

The units come in 4 different room mixes: 1 room, 2 rooms, 3 rooms and 4 rooms.

The units have saleable floor areas ranging from 59 –104 square meters (632 – 1,121 square feet), and gross floor areas from 52 – 178 square meters (560 – 1,913 square feet). This gives an efficiency of around 75 – 90%.

Amenities & Surrounding Environment

An array of amenities can be found near the estate, of which The Lai Chi Kok Park is the most notable and valuable. The park consists of a children’s playground, a public swimming complex, an indoor sports centre, an outdoor running facility, a traditional Chinese garden, basketball courts, squash courts, soccer fields, tennis courts and a skate park.

The estate is also surrounded by other facilities serving various daily needs, such as medical clinics, beauty salons, newspaper kiosks, supermarkets, shopping arcades, restaurants and a wet market.

Accessibility

A wide range of transportation means is available at Mei Foo Sun Chuen: including MTR, buses, mini-buses and taxis.

Mei Foo Sun Chuen is connected to the Tsuen Wan line of MTR since 1982. The completion of the West Rail Line in 2003 further makes Mei Foo Station an interchange station, making it more accessible. Considered to be a crossroad between Tsuen Wan and Kowloon, various buses and minibuses have stops in Mei Foo. It also has a bus terminal in the underpass of the Kwai Chung Road. The completion of Route 8 tunnels in 2009 further provides a more direct link to eastern New Territories.

Estate View

While certain South or South West facing blocks enjoy the greenery of the Lai Chi Kok Park, and some overlooking the Rambler Channel, most of the blocks face internal landscaping and building views.

School Network
Mei Foo belongs to School Net No. 40. Areas that belong to the same Net No. include Lai Chi Kok, Cheung Sha Wan, Sham Shui Po, Shek Kip Mei and Yau Yat Chuen. This Net is not known for traditional famous schools.
