General Information
South Horizons, a private housing estate located at the west of Ap Lei Chau, Southern District, consists of 34 blocks at 4 phases, having storeys of 35 to 42 respectively. They are built between 1991 and 1995, supplying 9812 flats in total.
The estate is developed by Hutchison Whampoa Limited and managed by Savills Property Management Limited. According to Population Census 2011, the population in South Horizons was 31,496, being the most populated estate in the district. As the median monthly domestic household income was relatively higher than that of other housing estates (HKD$54,300)m the estate is described as a “middle-class estate” (Census and Statistics Department, 2012).
Housing Units
Except the penthouses on the topmost floor of some blocks, which has a different layout design from typical units, five types of typical units with different layout are provided, namely
- Flat with 2 bedrooms
- Flat with 2 bedrooms and 1 storeroom
- Flat with 3 bedrooms
- Flat with 3 bedrooms and 1 storeroom
- Flat with 4 bedrooms
Their saleable floor area ranges from 632 m2 to 1,121 m2.
Facilities, Amenities
In the housing estate, lots of facilities are provided for the occupants, including harbour-front promenade, resident club, car park, sports facilities and shopping centres. in addition, there are five kindergartens and two primary schools.
For sports facilities, there are 3 swimming pools, a football court, basketball court and a sports complex. For the shopping centres, there are Marina Square West and Marina Square East. The former is owned by Estate Dragon Group and managed by Savills Property Management Limited, while Hutchison Whampoa Limited owns the latter.
Transportation
Currently, the available transportation means in South Horizons are buses, mini-buses and taxi. In the near future, the South Horizons MTR station of the South Island Line will be in use, aiming at serving residents in South Horizons.
